City Council meeting, January 29, 2024. Highlights of some of the items discussed:
1. Council approved changes to the city’s zoning ordinance. A partnership with local stakeholders from the local construction industry, engineers and other professionals in the Homewood community spent over 18 months going through the entire ordinance to clean up confusion and look for things that were missing. The three main goals were to eliminate inconsistencies, add clarity to vague language and better mirror current city policies. No zoning of property or zoning classifications were a part of this update. If you were R5 before this update, you are still R5 and so-on.
2. Council approved amendments to the Homewood sign ordinance that include temporary signs that now can only be freestanding, window signs can now only cover 20% of window area and then monument signs must comply with setbacks for the zoning district.
3. Council approved requested sign variances for SouthPoint Bank at 1720 28th Avenue South.
4. Council approved a Final Development Plan at 815 Green Springs Highway for the “the Edge” mixed-use development project intended to reflect the approved resurvey and subdivision of the subject property’s current 4-acre site into two separate lots to
facilitate future development. This includes Homewood Community Church that has purchased the lot in the back part of the property.
5. Council approved a rezone 3011 Firefighter Lane from R-5 (Attached Dwelling Unit District) to R-7 ((Attached Dwelling Unit District) for the purpose of redeveloping the property for a potential two-unit townhouse.
