Garbage and recycling are collected by Amwaste. Trash, debris and large piles are collected by the City of Homewood.
Weekly Collection

Know what goes out each day.

Amwaste serves homes on either a Monday/Thursday or Tuesday/Friday route. Carts should be at the curb by 6:00 a.m.

First Collection Day

Monday or Tuesday

  • Place garbage in your cart.
  • Place recycling in the same cart.
  • Include all accepted materials.
  • This collection is sent to RePower in Montgomery for sorting.
Residents combine garbage and recycling in one cart on this collection day.
Second Collection Day

Thursday or Friday

  • Place garbage in your cart.
  • Include other accepted household items.
  • Do not place recyclable materials in the cart on this day.
  • The City claw truck also collects qualifying trash and debris.
Put debris at the curb—not in the street—and keep it away from overhead power lines.

These simple rules help make collection safer and more reliable.

Up to Three Carts

Residents may place up to three carts at the curb. Other carts may be used if they are at least 45 gallons.

Small Bags Go in the Cart

Three bags or fewer of leaves, pine straw, grass clippings or small debris must be placed inside the garbage cart.

City Claw Truck

Trash, debris & large piles.

The City collects qualifying curbside debris on the second collection day for your route. Debris should be out by 6:30 a.m.

How to prepare a pile

  • Place debris at the curb, never in the street.
  • Keep piles away from overhead power lines and utility equipment.
  • Four or more bags may be placed at the curb for claw-truck collection.
  • Three bags or fewer must go inside the garbage cart.
  • Single branches are not collected; branches must be grouped into a pile.
  • Contractors must remove all construction and landscaping debris they create.

How It Works

Watch the sorting process.

On the first weekly collection day, residents place garbage and recycling together in one cart. The load is taken to RePower in Montgomery, where recyclable material is sorted from the waste stream.
