    Committee Meetings 02/19/24

    Finance Highlights 02/19/24

    1. Council President Alex Wyatt updated the committee on the city manager consideration, unveiling a new potential ward map with four ward boundaries, instead of five, redrawn by the state according to census data. It would go into effect if a referendum for the proposed changed to the government structure was successful. But before there can be a vote, the next step is to complete a petition to even have the referendum, which takes support from 10% of the people who voted in the 2020 municipal election. The cost associated with having a third party group manage this is $15,000. The committee approved the money to do this. See the map and read more about this story HERE

    2. Committee was presented with an update from Amy Milam, for Sims Garden providing a timeline of funding and progress of the garden.

    3. Committee approved a request for consideration of a street-light at Waverly & Avalon as well as at Browning Wall entrance. The amount approved was $122.16 per light, per year, that will come out of the seven cents gas tax.

After the recent retirement of Chief Nick Hill, Mayor Patrick McClusky has named Brandon Broadhead as the new fire chief for the City of Homewood. Broadhead brings almost 20 years of experience within Homewood's fire department to the role, having served in various leadership positions, most recently as deputy chief. Brandon is very proficient with technology, and will bring that expertise to this position. His top priority is to use technology and other methods to help ensure the deployment of the right personnel for efficient emergency response, rather than a predefined list of firefighters and paramedics. Broadhead also wants to foster strong relationships with surrounding municipalities, enabling seamless collaboration in responding to emergencies within each other's jurisdictions, bolstering staffing and equipment capabilities - a common practice that strengthens the resilience of all departments.
