Planning Commission August 5, 2025
The Planning Commission approved a request to replace the former Caster’s BBQ at 215 Lakeshore Parkway with a drive-thru-only Seven Brew Coffee stand, despite discussion over the building orientation facing away from the shopping center. The commission also voted to rescind its previous approval to subdivide the old police headquarters property since the rezoning plan was withdrawn, and announced there will be no September meeting due to lack of cases.

Item 802507: This was a request to amend the Wildwood Center South Redevelopment Plan to allow for a new Seven Brew Coffee drive-thru stand at 215 Lakeshore Parkway. The applicant explained the project would replace the existing Caster’s BBQ, feature two drive-thru lanes, and include a modular building with a small patio and minimal parking for employees. The building would face Lakeshore for visibility, which was questioned by the commission since the city prefers buildings to face inward toward the shopping center. The applicant said that decision came from the company's corporate team and was based on topography and traffic flow. Landscaping and screening features were discussed, as well as construction timelines and building materials. After discussion, the amendment was approved, 6-0.
Item 250704: The commission voted to rescind its July 8th approval to subdivide the former Homewood Police Station site at 1833 29th Avenue South into two lots. This action followed the withdrawal of the plan by the developer.
Additional Note: It was announced that there will be no Planning Commission meeting in September due to a lack of cases. The election of officers, normally held in September, will be addressed in October, with a nominating committee likely to be formed in the meantime.
